Overhead Gantry Crane Operator Course
Course Summary
This course is designed for people who have little or no formal training or experience in the operation of overhead gantry cranes and experienced operators requiring refresher training.
Course Objectives
To teach the basic skill requirements and associated job safety knowledge to operators of Overhead Gantry Cranes. Abrasive Wheels. At the course end successful delegates will be familiar with the basic skill requirements and job safety knowledge required for safe and effective operation of Gantry and Overhead Cranes.

- Current Legislation, including:
- Health & Safety at Work Act Etc 1974;
- LOLER, Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998
- PUWER, Provision and Use of Working Equipment Regulations 1998
- Pre use inspection of crane/equipment & Maintenance
- Safe Operations of Gantry Cranes
- Lifting plans
- Introduction to Work Equipment, including Specific hazards & controls
- Daily Safety Checks & Maintenance
- Raising, Transporting & landing a Load
- Basic Slinging & Signals
- Short Video
- Knowledge Examination
- Stability
- Permit to work procedure
- Lifting equipment recognition
- Hazards involving angles and de-ratings
- Lifting equipment configurations
Practical
- Controls and Instruments
- Set up for lifting operations, including selection of appropriate site for operation
- Pre-use inspection and take over maintenance
- Basic Operations
- Prepare and secure machine for travel
- Selection and use of slings
- Load weight assessment
- Lifting and placing loads at various levels and locations
- Driving on/off ramps
- Turning loads over safely & correctly
- Practical Examination
Course Duration: 1-2 days dependant on experience
Upon successful completion of the training & tests delegates will receive certification.
