Towers with Cantilevers Course
Towers with Cantilevers is an advanced module that equips experienced tower users with the skillset for more complex tower builds, taking into account the principles of counterbalance calculations for the use of kentledge in cantilever applications and much more.
It also covers in some depth the appropriate sections of BS 1139-6:2014 – part 6, which details the requirements for more complex tower structures, such as towers with cantilevers, which utilise components from towers complying with BS EN 1004:2004, but which are outside the limited scope of this standard.
Who can attend this course?
Anyone who is experienced in using towers and is to be given responsibility for the assembly, dismantling, alteration, moving and inspection and use of mobile access towers with cantilevers in a standard configuration.
Given the more complex concepts involved, this course will be a fresh challenge to delegates and in order to be eligible, delegates must have already passed PASMA’s

|Assessment||Closed book course with a pass mark of 80% in both theory and practical|
|PPE||Suitable head/footwear/eye/glove protection during the practical session.Hard hat, preferable with chin strap|
|Course content||Legislation, Regulations and Guidance affecting working at height withaccess towers; PASMA Code of Practice; Product Standards EN 1004:2004and BS1139 Part 6:2014; assembling, altering and dismantling towersincorporating current best practice for fall protection; inspection ofcompleted mobile access towers with cantilevers and completion of TowerInspection Records; hazards affecting the use of towers with a cantilever|
|Instructor delegate ratio||Maximum of 1:8|
|Venue requirement||A suitable classroom to accommodate 8 delegates for the theory session andan indoor/outdoor area with a minimum free height of 6 metres areprerequisites|
|Supporting Documents||A course content and notes booklet and a copy of the current PASMA Codeof Practice will be issued to all delegates who attend the course|
|Award||A PASMA Certificate and PhotoCard will be issued to successful delegateswho complete the theory and practical assessment sessions at the level theyattend the course, which has a five year validity period|
|Literacy, Fitness & Health(Extract from the PASMA Code of Practice)||Since the safe use of mobile towers requires that you consult safety notices and readand thoroughly understand the manufacturer’s instruction manual, literacy andlanguage comprehension are important requirements for any tower user.Similarly, since the assembly and use of mobile access towers can be physicallydemanding, users should be physically fit and in good health and should, generally,not have problems with eyesight or hearing, heart disease, high blood pressure,epilepsy, fear of heights / vertigo, giddiness / difficulty with balance, impaired limbfunction, alcohol or drug dependence or psychiatric illness.If delegates have any problems with literacy or language comprehension, or have anydoubts about their fitness to use mobile access towers, they must bring them to theattention of their employer. This need not preclude them from using mobile accesstowers, provided their employer conducts an assessment and is able to put into placeadequate measures, to take account of any difficulties they may have.|
|Qualifications & Experience||You must hold a current PASMA ‘Towers for Users’ PhotoCard and have a|
