 Low Level Access Course

This half day course is intended for users of low level access equipment (< 2.5m) made from prefabricated tower components, such as folding step units and folding tower units. The course
gives an overview of regulations, legislation and product standards and covers current best practice, inspection of low level access units and hazards to be avoided in depth.

Duration ½ Day course, lasting a minimum of 3½ hours
Who will benefit from this course Personnel who work from prefabricated units under 2.5m of height
Learning Objectives How to safely assemble, dismantle and relocate low level access unitswithout risk of personal injury to the delegate or others
Method Instruction both in theory and practical sessions
Assessment Closed book course with a pass mark of 80% in both the theory andpractical
PPE Suitable head / foot protection and gloves during the practical session
Course content Current Legislation, Regulations and Guidance affecting work at heightwith low level access units, PASMA Code of Practice, Publicly AvailableSpecification, assembling, altering and dismantling low level unitsincorporating current best practice for fall protection, inspection ofcompleted low level units and completion of Tower InspectionRecords; hazards affecting the use of low level units
Instructor delegate ratio Maximum of 1:12
Venue requirement A suitable classroom to accommodate 12 delegates for the theorysession and an indoor area suitable for a practical session
Supporting Documents A course content and notes booklet and a current Code of Practicebooklet will be issued to all delegates who attend the course
Award A PASMA Certificate and PhotoCard will be issued to successfuldelegates who complete the Theory and Assessment sessions at thelevel they attend the course which has a five year validity period
Literacy, Fitness & Health(Extract from the PASMA Code of Practice) Since the safe use of mobile towers requires that you consult safety notices and readand thoroughly understand the manufacturer’s instruction manual, literacy andlanguage comprehension are important requirements for any tower userSimilarly, since the assembly and use of mobile access towers can be physicallydemanding, users should be physically fit and in good health and should, generally,not have problems with eyesight or hearing, heart disease, high blood pressure,epilepsy, fear of heights / vertigo, giddiness / difficulty with balance, impaired limbfunction, alcohol or drug dependence or psychiatric illnessIf delegates have any problems with literacy or language comprehension, or have anydoubts about their fitness to use mobile access towers, they must bring them to theattention of their employer. This need not preclude them from using mobile accesstowers, provided their employer conducts an assessment and is able to put into placeadequate measures, to take account of any difficulties they may have
Qualifications & Experience No formal qualifications or experience are necessary, but it would bebeneficial if delegates had a basic understanding of work at heightissues
